Putin stressed that the union of the Russian Federation and Belarus is not a union state, but integration.
“We speak with Belarus as a union state, but in the literal sense of the word it is not a state. It’s just a certain level of integration,” Putin says.
He tried to compare this union with the European Union and admitted that the level of integration within the EU bloc is deeper.
“The EU has a deeper level of integration than we have within the framework of an alliance with Belarus. There is a single currency and a more powerful customs union … There is all this that we have not yet achieved,” says Putin.
