Insurance Scandal Involving Former President Alberto Fernández Leads to Resignation of Nación Seguros General Manager Mauro Tanos – First High-Profile Fallout

Santa Rosa and Buenos Aires (2b) – The insurance scandal involving former president Alberto Fernández has just generated the first resignation and it is that of a Pampeano: the general manager of Nación Seguros Mauro Tanos, a former member of La Cámpora promoted by the current government and son of former Minister of Education Miguel Tanos, was removed from his position after being raided yesterday by Judge Julián Ercolini, where a telephone and documentation were seized.

Between yesterday and today, Tanos spoke several times with the president of Nación Seguros, Alfonso José Torres, and they agreed to dismiss him as a government official after the public scandal, as published today by Infobae, which also announced that the man from Pampa will formally leave the Milei government. , who had promoted him despite the change in management.

Tanos (37) began his political career in the Peronist Youth at the age of 19, recently arrived from La Pampa, led by José Ottavis. Later he was an official in the Municipality of Moreno and in other organizations. In 2021 he arrived at Nación Seguros as commercial manager, almost at the same time that Alberto Fernández’s decree was published that forced public organizations to contract with that firm. This year, remarkably, he was promoted to general manager. “They chose him for his technical role because he did not have any political sponsor in La Libertad Avanza,” said a source who knows the corridors of Nación Seguros.

Justice arrived in Tanos from a Jeep truck that was seen at the house of businessman Alfredo Del Corro. That vehicle is registered in the name of “7 de Mayo Cooperativa Limitada”, but the manager of Nación Seguros was authorized to use it.

The investigators came to that truck from a striking situation that occurred in one of the procedures ordered by the judge a month ago, at one of the headquarters of the San Ignacio company. In that place, a lawyer gave the Federal Police two boxes with documentation. When they went to look for the cameras at the location, the officers realized that the boxes had arrived a few minutes earlier in a car, a Citroën C4 Cactus, domain AF737BD.

Following that lead ended at Del Corro’s house and then on Tanos.

Judge Ercolini believes that Tanos “acted as a contact” with San Ignacio, one of the two firms benefiting from the contract for retiree loans.

According to an audit by Nación Seguros, at the request of Justice, San Ignacio charged $231,918,674 in commissions. This figure does not include the million-dollar commissions that the intermediaries would have charged for the four co-insurers: Sancor, San Cristóbal, San Germano and Life Orígenes.

Tanos was raided yesterday morning at his home, in Cabrera at 3900, where he was working. The Federal Police also went to his office, in San Martín at 900.

Aside from his resignation, the until now general manager of Nación Seguros is already preparing a judicial presentation in the Comodoro Py courts, this media learned.

Judge Ercolini also charged another Nación Seguros official in the last few hours. This is the current purchasing manager, Marcos Eufemio. In that case, the magistrate found very striking corporate data. In fact, he is part of a company called “SMART TECHNOLOGY SRL” together with Del Corro, the same official who ended up splashing Tanos. And he appears linked to the firm “Megaled Del Sur SRL”, where Del Corro himself and Damián Gosso appear.

This Friday, among the planned raids, the judge decided to inspect Eufemio’s house, at Arcos 2600, and his offices, at 900 San Martín.
