Insurance Company Refuses to Cover Repairs for Stolen Gardener’s Truck

The gardener whose tool truck was stolen in Pittsburgh got it back, but now the insurance company doesn’t want to answer for the repairs his vehicle needs.

Javier Quezada, has been a gardener for 27 years, and on July 27, with great fear, he made the report of the theft of his truck.

Criminals aboard a black sedan took Quezada’s truck including his tools, money and several important documents.

But a week later he received a call from the police.

“They found it in Oakland on 58th Street and 12th Street, now completely empty, there was nothing left,” Quezada said.

What Javier did not know was that the happiness of having found his truck would turn into a headache when contacting the insurance company.

“I spoke and they told me that they were going to send a person to review the damage to be able to fix it, but this has been going on for over two weeks and I have been calling, my daughter has been sending them emails, well I need my truck because my job doesn’t wait for me and I don’t want to lose my clients,” explained Quezada.

NBC 48 accompanied Javier to the garage where his truck is and showed us some of the damage that needs repair.

“The steering wheel switch for the ignition, the glass is broken, the driver’s seat is broken, the paint has several scratches,” said Quezada. “We have done everything so that it arrives as quickly as possible, but it is waiting, since they do not answer my emails, they do not speak to me back”

We called Javier’s insurance company, but they didn’t want to talk about it, so we sent an email and still haven’t heard back.

We contacted the California Department of Insurance, and they say that if an insurance company goes over their deadlines, they can help you by calling your insurance company directly.

“What is happening with this case? What have they done? What evidence can they give us that they are following up on this case and on this claim, and if they are going to approve the claim, when do they plan to comply with the claim payment?” said Jazmín Ortega, a spokeswoman for the California Department of Insurance.

They also suggest the following:

“Take note of when they called, when they reported the accident or incident, when they answered you, who you are calling with,” Ortega said.

If your insurance company has not resolved your case yet, you can call 1(800)927-4357 where the consultation is free and in Spanish.
