Instagram, profiles become QR codes: a photo to follow a profile

To add a new user or open the page of an activity on Instagram it will be sufficient to scan a QR code with any app for photography. After launching this novelty in Japan a year ago, the social is now bringing the functionality around the world. Apparently it doesn’t look much different from what was already offered through Nametags. The system allowed to generate forms of QR code inside Instagram, not surprisingly readable only through the social camera. Now to be able to generate the code just select the QR code item in the Settings and have it scanned by another user to follow us.

More than for individuals, this updated functionality is above all meeting the needs of shops and restaurants that can be added more easily. In the meantime, code scanning has become increasingly common in the Covid-19 era: many places use it to send customers back to the menu without having to use a physical one anymore. In principle, all the main apps have recently been equipped to facilitate the reading of QR Codes or similar technologies. Among the latest services to do so there was also WhatsApp which in this way wants to make it easier to add a contact.
