For the past few weeks, many Instagram users have complained that they have received dozens of questionable links in private messages, which lead to pornographic content.

Several messages per day

These messages are systematically sent by fake anonymous accounts, in the form of grouped messages. Users see an influx of these unwanted messages, whether their accounts are public or private.

In addition to the links, many users say they have received photos of a sexual nature, sometimes very explicit. These spam emails arrive in the “requests” category of Instagram messaging, and some users have received up to ten messages per day.

Change message settings to protect yourself from them

To get rid of unwanted messages, it is possible to block the reception of messages for all users to whom you have not subscribed, or to prevent invitations to groups.

To perform these actions, go to “Settings”, then “Confidentiality” and finally “Messages”. This allows you to limit invitations to people you follow.

You can also go to “Settings”, then “Notifications” and then “Direct messages” to block notifications of these unwanted additions. This feature is only available for iOS users.

To help Instagram fight this wave of spam, you can also flag the anonymous accounts that send the messages.
