Instagram Channel Cestmocro Faces Complaint for Anti-Semitic Reactions and Calls for Investigation

The Center for Information and Documentation Israel (Cidi) is filing a complaint against Instagram channel Cestmocro for anti-Semitic reactions to posts. Reports are also being filed against the people who posted the comments. In addition, the Jewish interest group wants to investigate whether the channel can be taken offline.

Cestmocro is a very popular channel among young people with around 1 million followers. It places posts that frequently use material from journalistic organizations. The account regularly goes too far and posts disinformation from unreliable sources. Furthermore, the account is very conservative when it comes to progressive issues such as climate and LGBT rights.

In the war between Israel and Hamas, Cestmocro is clearly taking sides against Israel. This leads to extreme comments under posts, which the channel does not moderate. These comments are not limited to criticism of Israel, but are regularly also clearly anti-Semitic. For example, under posts it is written: ‘The Nazis should have done better’, ‘Kankerrr cancer whores Jews’, ‘Hamas Hamas gas all Jews’ and ‘Every kk Jew, including from the Netherlands, must be dealt with’.

The Cidi is therefore reporting incitement to hatred, insulting groups, threats and intimidation. Moreover, Cidi believes that public order is endangered by such statements ‘because it threatens national security in general and that of the Jewish community in particular, and incites hatred and violence’. That is why the account should be banned, Cidi believes. It is unknown who is behind the canal.

On its own channel, Cestmocro responds to the report by saying: ‘We have never incited hatred of Jews and we never will. We stand up for the innocent civilians who have been murdered in Gaza for over 2 weeks now. We’ve said it before, but again: Jews are not responsible for the actions of the Israeli government.” In its response, Cestmocro does not address the failure to remove obviously anti-Semitic comments from its own posts.
