This Tuesday, the intensification of patrolling, awareness and inspection operations of the National Republican Guard (GNR) and Public Security Police (PSP), carried out within the scope of the ban on movement between municipalities in mainland Portugal, will end this Tuesday.
The security forces had a “pedagogical intervention” between the 30th of October and this Tuesday, the 3rd of November, when circulation between municipalities was prohibited due to Covid-19.
When the operation started, the Minister of Internal Administration, Eduardo Cabrita, noted that the inspection would be “adequate and necessary, but it will depend on the sense of responsibility of the citizens”, adding that “the intervention of the security forces is fundamentally a pedagogical intervention, aiming to guarantee the health and safety of citizens ”.
“Portugal has been characterized by the exemplary way in which we have applied measures that are restrictive and that have changed our way of being, but we have done so with respect for the democratic rule of law, that is, exercising the democratic authority of the State without any abuse of authority ”, he justified.
Among the days lived without reports of altercations, the PSP’s inspection and sensitization operation in Porto stands out, which despite having been “very positive”, faced protests from some motorists.
In this operation, which took place at the Rotunda of Castelo do Queijo, in Porto, which is just a few hundred meters from the neighboring municipality of Matosinhos, PSP “tried to find a balance between the impositions imposed and the development of activities so that the country can move forward ”Added the commissioner.
However, not all motorists understood the Government’s decision to condition the movement of people outside the municipality of residence, in an attempt to stop the spread of the coronavirus that causes the covid-19 disease.
It should be remembered that, in order to circulate between municipalities, people had to be accompanied by a declaration justifying the employer or make a declaration, under honor, if the trip was between municipalities bordering the usual residence or in the same Metropolitan Area.
