He National Penitentiary Institute (INPE) reported that it implemented environments in the Lurigancho prison to prevent the spread of coronavirus (COVID-19) between inmates and their lawyers.

In a statement, the INPE detailed that four environments have been enabled in said prison with the appropriate protocols, as part of the return to the new normality.
The lawyers’ room has 16 modules, which have the respective social distancing and protection mechanisms to avoid direct contact between the persons who exercise the legal defense and the inmates.
The other 3 rooms will be used by magistrates from the Judiciary and the Public Ministry, who will be able to carry out their interviews with the inmates.

In addition, signs were made to respect social distance and informative posters, disinfectant gel and alcohol were placed in the various environments.
The personnel in charge of the security of the Lurigancho prison were trained to enforce the security protocols. Lawyers can enter from Monday to Friday from 8 am to 4 pm, while members of the Judiciary and the Public Ministry can do so from 8 am to 5 pm
The Lurigancho prison has a population of 9,291 inmates and the direction falls to Joel Franklin Quezada Márquez and the deputy director to Víctor Santos Huapaya.
