ING Belgium will close about 50 branches next year: “Belgians are increasingly banking digitally and remotely”

The announcement came as a surprise to the trade unions, says Maarten Dedeyne of the ACLVB, the General Central of the Liberal Trade Unions of Belgium. The trade unionist points out that this is almost about halving the bank’s statutory offices. “This is the umpteenth pruning operation, after those of previous years”, it sounds.

Even though the management promises that the affected employees will be offered another job, according to Dedeyne, this still creates uncertainty for those involved. “Another reassignment procedure, that is stressful in any case,” it sounds.
