The maritime transport market now has a new operator with 100% Moroccan capital. Morocco Cruise Line, that’s its name, will be present in the segment of passenger transit via the Mediterranean as well as in freight destined for the ports of West Africa. The details.

The company received the approval of the Ministry of Equipment, Transport and Logistics in July. The project will require a global investment estimated at 600 million dirhams. The health crisis has delayed the start of passenger transport activity, a source close to the matter tells us. On the freight side, if everything goes as planned, the first lines will be operational before the end of the year, continues our interlocutor.

Maritime transport is considered to be the weak link in Morocco’s strategy in Africa. Morocco Cruise Line thus wants to support Moroccan operators by creating dedicated maritime connections to the continent (from Tangier to Abidjan, via Dakhla).

Behind this project, there is Mohamed Laâziz Kadiri, Mr. Africa of the CGEM. In his capacity as president of LK Invest, an investment and consulting company created in Morocco, he has accompanied large groups and collaborated with several African heads of state including the former president of Madagascar, Hery Rajaonarimampianina and the current president of Senegal, Macky Sall.

In addition to Laâziz Kadiri, reference shareholder through LK Invest, the funding of Morocco Cruise Line is made up of AEM Holding (owned by the El Moutie family, specialist in urban transport through the City Bus group) and Sidi Mohamed Majid Idrissi, former director of the Hassan II Foundation for the social works of former soldiers.
