Influenza continues: schools in Vomperbach and Schönberg paralyzed

Schönberg, Vomperbach – Tyrol has apparently not yet survived the flu: Almost half of all pupils at primary schools in Vomperbach and Schönberg are currently suffering from influenza. The country said in a broadcast on Tuesday.

In Vomperbach there are 24 out of 49 children, in Schönberg 20 out of 58 children who have to look after the bed. Both schools will therefore be closed as a precaution from Wednesday to the weekend in consultation with the Directorate of Education.

It was not until mid-December that two schools in Tyrol had to be temporarily closed due to influenza diseases. 150 out of 250 children at the Angergasse elementary school in Innsbruck and 70 out of 119 children at an elementary school in Igls were sick.

Flu vaccination still recommended

Vaccination against influenza is still recommended by the State Medical Directorate. “Children are less likely to be vaccinated against influenza, which is why the viruses can spread more quickly in schools and subsequently also lead to infection of non-vaccinated people within the family. For the best possible protection, flu vaccination should therefore be carried out, ”emphasizes Anita Luckner-Hornischer, the country’s vaccination expert.

Appropriate hand hygiene and a cough-sneezing mustache label can also be used to prevent infection. “You should cough or sneeze in the elbow and turn away from other people. The hands should be washed several times a day with soap under running water for at least 20 seconds, because the viruses are also transmitted through the palms of the hands, ”says Luckner-Hornischer. Anyone suffering from influenza should stay at home and recover. (TT.com)

What distinguishes influenza from the flu infection

The “real flu” (influenza) is a serious illness with a high fever compared to the flu infection (cold with or without fever), which can last for several days or weeks. The risk of complications such as pneumonia is considerable. The “real flu.” “is caused by influenza viruses against which a flu shot can protect. Since different influenza viruses are in circulation every year and the vaccination has a limited effectiveness, the vaccine is adapted every year to the circulating influenza virus strains.
