A new domestic production of solid-state drives, motherboards and RAM strips has opened in the Moscow region. This is a new surface mounting line at the Inferit Technika plant, which will work primarily for the needs of Inferit, but will also accept orders from third-party customers. Peak production capacity is 60 thousand units of production per year.

New domestic IT production

Domestic manufacturer of equipment and infrastructure software Inferit informed CNews about the start of operation of its new production line for the production of various computer components. The workshop became part of the Inferit Technika plant, located in the Istok special economic zone, which is located in the science city of Fryazino near Moscow.

Inferit told the publication that the new line is intended for surface mounting. The main products that will come off this assembly line are motherboards, solid-state drives (SSDs) and RAM modules for both conventional computers and laptops and all-in-one computers, as well as servers.

Initial production capacity – up to 60 thousand devices per year

The main customer will be the Inferit vendor itself, whose product range includes both computer and server equipment. First of all, the new line will produce components “for the Inferit Equipment lines included in the Register of Russian Equipment of the Ministry of Industry and Trade,” Inferit representatives told CNews.

Tens of thousands per year

According to preliminary forecasts from Inferit representatives, the new production line will be capable of producing 5 thousand units of product every month. Per year, this number, according to their calculations, will reach 60 thousand. The company does not talk about plans to increase these figures, but they clarify that due to such large-scale production it will be possible to “accelerate the production of Inferit products included in the register of domestic equipment of the Ministry of Industry and Trade of Russia” .

Localization saves money

One of the consequences of the launch of a new production line, noted in Inferit, is a reduction in the final cost of computers and servers. The second consequence is the possibility of additional income, since Inferit is seriously considering launching contract production of components on a new conveyor.

The main client is the Inferit company itself, but no one refuses contract manufacturing

“In the future, we are considering the possibility of producing components for the needs of other companies on running lines,” Dmitry Grishin, head of the engineering department at Inferit Technika, told CNews.

From Vladivostok to Kaliningrad

Over the past year, several production lines for the production of electronics, including those using the surface mounting method, have opened in Russia. For example, in the fall of 2023, in Tatarstan, the ICL Group of Companies launched a factory for the production of motherboards and computer equipment, designed for the annual production of up to 300 thousand boards. ICL intends to increase production to 1 million copies per year until 2026.

Also, surface mounting of boards is carried out at the Fplus plant in the Moscow region, which has been operating since February 2024. The plant is aimed at the production and assembly of laptops, servers and printers with a volume of up to 500 thousand devices annually. Plans include the production of smartphones, tablets, all-in-one PCs, switches and storage systems.

In the city of Gusev, Kaliningrad region, there is the innovation cluster “Technopolis GS”, where the production lines of the GS Group holding are located. They have been engaged in surface mounting for several years – for example, in September 2020, as CNews reported, the DP310T motherboard from the Russian company Depot Computers arrived on the assembly line.

“Surface mounting lines for printed circuit boards operate at the TsTS plant (part of the GS Group), located in Gusev, Kaliningrad region,” GS Group representatives told CNews. – Work on surface mounting of printed circuit boards is carried out on an automatic line with a total capacity of more than 1 million components per hour. The plant operates four automatic surface mount lines: three FUJI NXT II lines, each with 14 modules, and one Assembleon/Yamaha line. The equipment allows you to install up to 400 types of components. Manufactured products include a range of civil electronics, any boards for electronic devices (motherboards, server boards, peripherals, etc.). In 2022, the production volume of motherboards at TsTS amounted to 390 thousand units. By 2023 – already 500 thousand, an increase of 27%. The company has already signed contracts for the production of almost 1 million motherboards in 2024.”

Commentary “Inferit”

After the publication of the material, the CNews editors received comments from the Inferit company.

When asked what was already being produced on the new line, the company replied: “On the new surface mount line at the Inferit Technika plant, the production of key components for the production of computer and server equipment – motherboards and RAM modules – has been launched. These components are already included in the register of Russian equipment of the Ministry of Industry and Trade. The components produced are aimed primarily at completing our own equipment models included in the register. In the future, based on the manufactured motherboards and RAM, it is planned to create new models of computers and servers for both government and commercial customers. The key advantage of in-house production is complete control over all stages of component manufacturing. This allows us to ensure high quality of both components and computer equipment produced at the plant. The introduction of your own line will have a positive impact on the cost of equipment. Now “Inferit Technika” does not depend on other contract manufacturing and has complete control over pricing. The main advantage of in-house production of components is complete control over the entire production chain – from components to finished products. This allows you to flexibly manage the quality and cost of products in the interests of customers. In addition, having our own production facilities eliminates the risks associated with external suppliers and speeds up the introduction of new equipment models to the market. We can quickly respond to the needs of the public and commercial sectors for import substitution.”

The answer to the question “What production volumes have been achieved at the time of launch, if 5000 per month is the limit” was as follows: “The figure of 5000 manufactured components per month is the maximum at the moment, based on the current characteristics of the line and the degree of automation of the processes. Today, after the successful completion of the commissioning phase on the new line, we have reached a stable monthly production of about 3,000 finished components – motherboards and memory modules. However, work is planned to modernize and optimize the line in order to increase capacity, which will allow us to increase production volumes.”

When asked whether production contracts have already been concluded for third-party customers, or perhaps negotiations are still underway, the company said: “The main task is to meet our own needs for components for the production of computer equipment under the Inferit Technika brand.” At the same time, negotiations are already underway with potential customers regarding the organization of contract production of motherboards and RAM modules. A number of companies have expressed interest in supplying our components.”

safety

The company also reported how production will be divided into in-house and contract production: “If there is appropriate demand from customers, part of the production capacity can be allocated for the organization of contract production of components. The location of the Inferit plant in the science city of Fryazino, on the site of the Istok special economic zone, provides us with the possibility of flexible scaling of production. If necessary, we can quickly increase volumes by increasing production space, deploying additional lines, and organizing multi-shift work.”

The choice of location for the production line at Inferit was commented on as follows: “The choice of site for the new surface mounting line was determined by several factors. Firstly, the presence of an existing production of computer equipment “Inferit Technique”, the capacity of which is 300 thousand units of computer and server equipment annually. This allows you to use existing capacities: warehouses, assembly shops, logistics and supply services. Secondly, the location in Fryazino in the Istok SEZ creates favorable conditions for conducting production activities, including thanks to the developed infrastructure and access to personnel. A business incubator, a certification center, and a branch of RTU MIREA operate here. This is the foundation for further development and scaling of production, the opportunity to attract qualified engineers and workers, and work together with high-tech companies.”

The company disclosed the construction timeline for the line: “The implementation of the project to create a surface-mounted line took about six months. We carefully analyzed offers from the world’s leading equipment manufacturers. For us, important criteria were both the quality of the equipment and the ability to promptly deliver the necessary components and technical support. We settled on equipment from one of the leading manufacturers in South Korea. Of course, in the current conditions, one of the key challenges was the selection of highly qualified personnel to service high-tech equipment. But during these six months we managed to form a strong team of professionals.”

When asked how many workers work in production, the company answered CNews: “The Inferit Technika production complex employs over 100 people. The operation of the new surface mounting line is supervised by an experienced technologist with many years of experience.
