Indonesia trails Thailand 0-2 in Group B match Sudirman Cup 2023. Jonathan Christie surrendered to Kunlavut Vitidsarn in a three game duel in the second game.

Competing at the Suzhou Olympics Center on Thursday (18/5/2023), Jonathan lost the second game and then had a fierce match in the third game. However, the 2018 Asian Games champion eventually lost with a final score of 21-12, 12-21, 20-22.

Jonatan’s defeat left Indonesia behind 0-2 from Thailand, as well as in a difficult position to win Group B champion status. In the third party, Indonesia relied on Princess Kusuma Wardani’s women’s singles to try to tackle Pornpawee Chochuwong.

A different scenario occurs at the start of the second game. Jonathan trailed 1-4, then 2-8 to Vitidsarn, then 4-11 at intervals. Vitidsarn then raced past Jonatan 16-9.

After winning, Vitidsarn became much calmer in dealing with Jonathan’s game. Game point for Vitidsarn after Jonathan smashed the net 20-10.

Jonathan won two additional points to reduce Vitidsarn’s score. However, Jonatan’s smash again hit the net so that Vitidsarn secured the second game with a score of 21-12.

Jonathan won a 67-shot rally in the early third game. Jonathan’s drop shot hit the net and then Vitidsarn’s return failed to cross his own court.

Substitute Vitidsarn won the rally to lead 9-7. Jonatan’s shot went wide again which made Vitidsarn lead 10-7.

Jonathan thinned out 10-11 in the final interval and then leveled the score 12-12 and 13-13. Jonathan won three consecutive points to take the lead from Vitidsarn 17-13.

Jonatan’s mistakes plus Vitidsarn’s smack made the gap between the two players shrink from four points to just one point with a score of 18-17.

Jonathan’s blunder let Vitidsarn’s punch fall into the back box, which was met with a loud smash. The score was even again at 19-19 after Jonatan’s smash hit the net.

Jonatan got the match point after Vitidsarn’s backhand got stuck, 20-19. But Vitidsarn forced deuce after Jonathan’s backhand also got stuck.

Vitidsarn earned a match point after Jonatan’s return to the back corner came out. Vitidsarn finally sealed a 22-20 victory with a sharp smash towards the middle of the field.
