JAKARTA – Regional governments must increase the speed of preventing and handling cases of dengue hemorrhagic fever (DBD) in their regions to reduce the death rate due to the disease which has been found in Indonesia since 1968. Strong collaboration between government and society is very necessary.

“Speed handling of dengue cases is one of the keys to increasing the recovery rate and reducing the death rate. “Comprehensive handling is needed to deal with the surge in DB cases in a number of regions in the country,” said Deputy Chair of the Indonesian MPR, Lestari Moerdijat in a written statement, Thursday (7/3/2024).

Notes from the Indonesian Ministry of Health (Kemenkes) state that the causes of the increase in dengue cases are the uncontrolled dengue mosquito vector, the transition period, and the steps to bury, drain and cover (3M) water reservoirs and used goods have not become a habit of the community.

Until the end of February 2024, the Ministry of Health recorded 16,000 cases of dengue fever throughout Indonesia with 124 deaths.

According to Lestari, alertness supported by appropriate policies is very necessary in dealing with the increase in dengue cases in a number of regions in the country.

Rerie, Lestari’s nickname, believes that the cycle of increasing dengue cases that occurs can actually be anticipated well.

The central and regional governments, said Rerie, who is also a legislator from Electoral District II, Central Java, can take anticipatory steps by consistently inviting the public to carry out the 3M movement and maintain the cleanliness of their living environment.

Apart from that, added Rerie, socialization regarding symptoms and anticipatory steps if a family is suspected of having dengue fever must also be carried out massively, so that first aid can be carried out immediately and appropriately.

Moreover, the member of the NasDem Party High Council hopes that the government will carry out a comprehensive study in an effort to control or stop the spread of dengue fever in the country. =MHD
