NEXT: RI’s vulnerability to Disease X

=============BREAK============

How big is the potential for disease X to emerge in Indonesia? On a different occasion, epidemiologist Dicky Budiman said that Indonesia is a country that is vulnerable to contributing to the potential for disease X.

According to him, this is due to the dense population in Indonesia and the high frequency of travel that occurs.

“The very high frequency of travel can facilitate the spread of infectious diseases. The high intensity of this population in some areas could have the potential for disease transmission or ease, such as in big cities, especially in densely populated areas and high interaction,” said Dicky.

Apart from that, Dicky also highlighted the outermost, remote and limited areas which still lack access to health. This condition could hamper detection and response when new pathogens appear.

“Apart from that, be careful when there is contact with wild and domestic animals. There is a greater risk of increasing pathogens changing species,” he concluded.
