“If this (toll road project) is built, economic nodes will arise and he will pay his own debt. And we are one of the countries that have world’s smallest debt,” said Luhut.

According to Luhut, when compared to Gross Domestic Product (GDP), Indonesia’s debt ratio is 40-41% of GDP. Whereas many developed countries in the world the ratio reaches almost 100%. On this basis, he called Indonesia’s debt the smallest in the world.

In addition, he said that the government had calculated the Return on Investment accurately. Therefore, he asked the public not to be deceived by what he called false information.

“So ladies and gentlemen, friends in the regional government, don’t talk strange things, don’t listen to things that aren’t clear. The government knows what we’re doing,” he said.

Some time ago Luhut had quipped at observers who were sarcastic in commenting on government debt. He asked observers to compare data with the government regarding Indonesia’s debt.
