Fighter Emerges as Global Box Office Champion

India’s latest local offering, the Hindi aviation actioner Fighter, has taken the global weekend chart by storm, garnering an estimated $25.1M in its opening weekend. Starring Hrithik Roshan and Deepika Padukone, and directed by Siddharth Anand, Fighter has already brought in ₹120 crore ($14.4M) at the Indian box office, making it a tremendous success. Moreover, the film had an impressive international start, including $4.3M from North America. The IMAX release of Fighter has also performed remarkably, generating $1.4M globally from 150 screens across 15 markets, with its opening in India being the 4th biggest for a local title in the IMAX format. This outstanding performance has propelled Fighter to the top position in the global box office rankings.

Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom Swims Past $400M

Continuing to make waves globally, Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom from Warner Bros/DC has now surpassed $400M in worldwide box office collections. Having been in theaters for six weeks, the film has earned $7M from 78 international markets this weekend alone, taking its total international gross to $294.6M and its worldwide total to $412.7M. The top five markets for Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom include China ($61.7M), Mexico ($21.8M), France ($19.2M), Germany ($16.1M), and Brazil ($15.1M).

Other Box Office Highlights

Several other films have also achieved notable milestones at the box office. Miramax’s action-adventure film The Beekeeper has flown past the $100M mark globally, accumulating $10.9M from 58 overseas markets in the recent weekend. The global total for The Beekeeper now stands at an impressive $103.9M. Animation film Migration has crossed $100M internationally, with $5.2M added from 76 markets, bringing its worldwide box office total to $206.1M. Not to be left behind, Searchlight’s film Poor Things, which received 11 Oscar nominations, has grossed $10M from 36 markets, accumulating a total of $51.1M globally.

Continued Success for Anyone But You

Following its remarkable milestone last weekend, Sony’s Anyone But You, an R-rated romantic comedy, experienced a 3% increase in international earnings. The film made an impressive $14.2M in 48 markets this past weekend, bringing its total international gross to $55.4M and its global earnings to $126.6M.

Italy witnessed an impressive opening for Anyone But You, with a strong debut of $1.2M, the highest for a romcom in the market since 2016. In Germany, the film secured the top spot for the second consecutive week, experiencing a 17% increase in earnings. Additionally, in Mexico, the second-weekend numbers showed a decline in descent (+18%). Considering the film’s excellent performance in Australia, where it has maintained the top position for five weeks, it becomes evident that the movie is captivating audiences around the world.

Oscar Nominated Films Receiving Box Office Boost

Universal/Focus’s film The Holdovers, nominated for multiple Oscars, witnessed a mere 14% drop in its holdover markets. With a current international gross of $11.9M, the film continues to captivate audiences worldwide.

Similarly, following its leading 13 Oscar nominations, Christopher Nolan’s Oppenheimer officially re-released in over 2,700 international locations, including 1,000 IMAX sites. The film has already crossed $627.3M at the international box office, positioning it as Universal’s 8th biggest film of all time. The worldwide gross for Oppenheimer is estimated to be approximately $187M.

Lastly, Wonka continues its successful run, enthralling audiences worldwide. With an overseas gross of $356.9M and a total global collection of $552M, the film is set to release in Korea on Wednesday, marking its final international market launch.

Overall, the global box office continues to witness successful releases, with Fighter and Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom leading the way, while numerous other films achieve remarkable milestones.
