“Jan Tratnik Injured in Training Accident Ahead of Giro d’Italia: Jumbo-Visma’s Preparation Disrupted”

Jumbo-Visma is not spared much in the run-up to the start of the Giro d’Italia. After three corona cases, the Dutch team had to deal with an accident during training today. Jan Tratnik had to be taken to hospital.

The Slovenian rider has problems with his knee. He collided with a turning car. It is still unclear whether Tratnik’s participation in the Tour of Italy is at stake. The first stage is scheduled for tomorrow.

The 33-year-old Tratnik is one of the servants of his compatriot Primoz Roglic at Jumbo-Visma. Together with the Belgian Remco Evenepoel, the leader is seen as the top favorite for the overall victory.

But the preparation of Jumbo-Visma has been disrupted in recent days. Robert Gesink and Norwegian Tobias Foss had to withdraw from the Giro at the beginning of this week because they tested positive for the corona virus. Jos van Emden and the Australian Rohan Dennis were appointed as their replacements, but on Thursday it was announced that Van Emden also has corona.

The team management then added Sam Oomen to the Giro team. A month ago, Wilco Kelderman, Roglic’s intended master servant, already dropped out after a fall in the Tirreno-Adriatico.

The Giro starts tomorrow with an individual time trial over 19.6 kilometers from Fossacesia along the coast to Ortona.
