An elderly couple from Alwar, Rajasthan, India, after 54 years of marriage had their first child.
According to the Indian Times, Gopichand, 75, and his wife, Chandravati Devi, 70, celebrated the arrival of their baby, thanks to an in vitro fertilization process. For more than a year he was planning his pregnancy to be able to fulfill this wish that they wanted so much.
“While there was happiness, there was also an element of fear due to the advanced age of the mother. But finally, on Monday, she gave birth to a healthy baby,” said Dr. Pankaj Gupta, an expert in in vitro fertilization and who accompanied the couple in this process.
Meanwhile, the boy’s father commented that he was “happy that we can support our family, since I am the only son of my father Nainu Singh”. At the same time, the mother also expressed joy at having her son.
This process, in which ovaries are fertilized with sperm outside the body in a laboratory, was to be limited to people under 50 by India’s Parliament, but the couple managed to have their baby before it came into effect.
