Indian Citizens Died of Covid-19 Reaches 400,000 People

Jakarta, CNN Indonesia

Number of deaths as a result corona virus (Covid-19) of India has reached 400 thousand people.

This number makes them the third country in the world with the highest number of deaths from Covid-19.

However, some experts say the actual death toll is much higher.

“Uncounted Covid-19 deaths have occurred across India, largely due to an inadequate system, and that means we never really know how many people actually died from this second wave of Covid-19,” said the researcher from the School of Science. Rajagiri Social in Kochi, Prof. Rijo M. John, as reported by Reuters, Friday (2/7).

The number of countries with the highest deaths from Covid-19 in the world is the United States, which is as many as 604 thousand people. While the second position is filled with Brazil with 518 thousand people.

Meanwhile, the number of Covid-19 cases in India reached 30.45 million, the second highest after the US, which reached 33 million.

India experienced a spike in Covid-19 cases in April and May, overwhelming all of their hospitals to treat patients. As a result of the spike in cases, many patients who are in critical condition are ultimately left untreated and die in the hospital parking lot while waiting for their turn or even at home.

The surge in the death toll from Covid-19 in India has also made it difficult for funeral officials. Because, they had to carry out a cremation ceremony for 24 hours so that the bodies of the Covid-19 patients who died did not pile up.

Some residents are even desperate to bury the bodies of their families who died from Covid-19 on the banks of the Ganges River.

Now the number of daily infection cases in India is gradually decreasing. However, local health experts warned that there could be a third wave of infections if the government was determined to loosen restrictions and reopen economic activities, as they detected a variant of the Delta Plus coronavirus, which is also rapidly spreading.
