Péter Sidi, world and European champion sports shooter who is currently a competitor at Steaua București, was granted Romanian citizenship on Wednesday. The granting of Romanian citizenship was decided by the Bucharest government at its meeting on Wednesday. According to the government decision, the 43-year-old sports shooter, born in Komárom, will not have a permanent residence in Romania.

Sidit was previously a member of the Association of Hungarian Sport Shooters (MSSZ) banned him for two years from his race because his competitor, István Péni, gave a positive doping pattern at the New Delhi World Cup, but he presented a video to the Hungarian federation showing Sidi going into his room and coming out only 45 minutes later, MTI wrote.

The case was investigated by both the domestic and the international federation, both organizations concluded that sabotage had taken place, so Péni was not banned, the world and European champion

Sidit, on the other hand, was banned by the MSSZ in the first instance for a year.

It is still not a proven fact that Peter Sidi mixed a diuretic called Furosemid into Péni’s vitamin D, the punishment was because he broke into another room unauthorized.

Sidi appealed, but the MSSZ presidency not only upheld it, but aggravated the sentence for two years.

Sidi has been racing ever since, as MSSZ was only able to ban them from races where they need their permission to start. Peter Sidi’s wife, Sidi Roxana, is a competitor of the Romanian national team, and she herself was the coach of the Romanian national team at the European Championships in Osijek.
