Index – Culture – Dinnyés József died

József Dinnyés, a popular Hungarian composer born in Szeged, a performer, singer and guitarist deserving of the Knight’s Cross of the Hungarian Order of Merit, died on the afternoon of March 15 at the age of seventy-two. The news was announced by his brother on his community page, writes Szegeder.

József Dinnyés practiced his art from 1963, in 1966 he was a founding member and songwriter of the Szeged Orchestra. In 1967, he became nationally known for his song Career, co-written with Miklós Veress, with which he won second place at the first Hungarian pol-beat festival. Because of his style and performance, he was often compared to American rock legend Bob Dylan, many referred to as “Bob Melon”.

Despite the fact that the Hungarian Record Company was very popular and performed in many places, it refused to record a record with it until 1985, and even then the title track’s song Infinite was censored. Five years after the album’s release, his thirty-five-song album, China and Defiance, was released for poets ’poems.

Later, however, Aranyalmás Publishing House, founded in the 1990s, published all its previously unpublished accumulated works. It was only then that his art really unfolded, as he edited a series of lectures from five centuries of poetry in Hungarian, and even founded a free school, where he presented the special trinity of history, literature and music.
