SURYA.co.id | MAGETAN – The Magetan Health Service noted that the number of HIV/AIDS sufferers in 2023 will continue to increase.
Magetan Health Service HIV/AIDS Program Sub-Coordinator, Agus Yudi Purnomo, explained that since 2000, the total number of sufferers has reached 609 people.
According to him, of the 609 sufferers, 402 had the status of People Living with HIV/AIDS (PLWHA), and 215 of them underwent regular treatment at the community health center.
For 2023 there will be an additional 104 sufferers.
“They were detected when they went to health services, from January to October 2023,” said Agus Yudi, Sunday (10/12/2023).
Ironically, Agus continued, transmission as a result of the Male Like Male (MSM) trend has increased, exceeding the trend of transmission from housewives, from 2021 to 2022.
“It’s not just adults. We detected that many MSM were carried out by junior and senior high school students, for the reason that they did not want the risk of pregnancy and so on. We had difficulty penetrating their communities. However, education must be provided so that transmission can be suppressed. “At the same time, screening is carried out, so that it can be treated immediately if it is declared positive,” continued Agus.
When asked about prevention, the Health Service admitted that it had made efforts through mobile Voluntary Counseling and Testing (VCT).
“Mobile VCT is carried out by 6 community health centers. This year we have done it 13 times to detect sufferers as well as provide education. We also screen prospective brides and grooms for HIV, syphilis and hepatitis. We have also prepared support and treatment service rooms at community health centers spread throughout Magetan. “Namely at the Karangrejo, Takeran, Ngariboyo, Candirejo and Plaosan Community Health Centers,” he concluded.
