In the first match of the season, the advantage of the vice-champions had to be recognized

On Sunday, DFK Dainava started the Topsport A League season. At the Marijampolė football arena, the Alytis team met with the last season’s vice-champion Vilnius “Žalgiris” team. The meeting ended with the victory of the guests – 0:1 (0:1).

“Dainava” footballers were the first to create a dangerous opportunity. Davoras Rakić was brought forward in a quick attack, but his attack was neutralized by the defense of the visitors. On the other side of the field, Alytis goalkeeper Volodymyr Krynskis played well, defending his own goal from Nikola Petković’s shot that sent the ball into the goal area.

In the 9th minute of the meeting, the “Dainava” team had to make a forced substitution. After a kick by a player from Vilnius, the ball hit Dainava defender Lamin Jawara in the head. The player needed emergency medical help after absorbing the blow. Although the singer left the field with the help of his teammates, after that he was taken away from the football field by medics. Renatas Banevičius replaced the injured Lamin Jawar on the pitch.

In the 27th minute of the meeting, Ovidijus Verbickas directed the ball into the goal of the Alytus team.

The first half ended with an attack by the “Dainava” team. Artiomas Baftalovskis made a long shot, but the visiting goalkeeper made no mistake and the teams entered the break with the score 0:1.

In the second half, the teams exchanged attacks, but neither of them managed to create more dangerous episodes. At the end of the meeting, “Dainava” players intensified their attack. Ignas Kružikas had a great opportunity to equalize the result already during the time added by the referee. After Aaron Olugbogi’s excellent pass, the Dainava striker headed in a header but the ball went wide of the post.

In the remaining minutes, the result did not change and Alytis had to admit the superiority of the guests.

DFK Dainava will play the Second Round match of the Topsport A League on March 10 at 3 p.m. In Panevėžys, the Dainavians will meet last season’s champions, the local Panevėžys team.
