Prague – In the eastern half of the Czech Republic, traffic was complicated by ice during the night and into the morning. Due to it, some sections of roads were closed or very difficult to pass. Police recorded dozens of accidents, some with injuries. Buses and trains ran late. Icing on the trolleys in the Olomouc region stopped traffic on several railway lines, in Brno it limited the operation of trams. There were icy sidewalks in the cities, people have injuries after falling. A state of calamity was declared in Turnov in the Semila region due to slippery sidewalks. The problems stopped during the morning thanks to the warming, but in the eastern half of the Czech Republic and in the northeastern part of Bohemia, the ice should return at night on Wednesday, meteorologists warned.

In the South Moravian region, the poor passability of the roads delayed bus services, some did not even leave. According to the website of the regional integrated transport system, the biggest problems were in the morning in the vicinity of Blansko, Tišnov, Letovice and Boskovice, where buses were late from ten to 40 minutes, exceptionally up to an hour. Train services in the morning ran with a delay of up to 20 minutes. In Brno, damage to the overhead line stopped traffic, for example, between Semilass and Řečkovice and from the Main Railway Station to Komárov.

Police officers in the south of Moravia received reports from drivers practically every three minutes from 20:00 on Monday, after 22:00 the situation improved and became more complicated again this morning, when the drivers left for work. Before 10:00, the police recorded about a hundred accidents in connection with the glacier, mainly in Blanensko. According to police spokesman Bohumil Malášek, the accidents were usually without injuries, rarely with minor injuries. Rescuers treated about 25 people after falling on the ice since early Monday evening. They have injuries to their hands, feet, but also their heads or ribs, some of them ended up in the hospital, spokeswoman for South Moravian rescuers Michaela Bothová told ČTK.

In the Olomouc region, ice covered the roads in the morning, for example, around Konice in Prostějovsk and in the hilly northern part of Olomouc and Přerovsk. The D1 highway near Hranice in Přerovsk was closed at night in the direction of Prague for about five hours after a collision between a van, a truck and a bus. Firefighters spokeswoman Lucie Balážová told ČTK that paramedics transported five injured people to the hospital, and several other people were treated for abrasions and scratches on the spot. Two passenger vehicles crashed early in the morning near Kojetín in Přerovsk, injuries were reported from the scene. In Prostějovsk, there was an accident with a spreader and later also with a regular bus, but only the driver was in it.

Due to ice on the trolleys, train traffic was limited at night on the main corridor between Olomouc, Přerov and Hranice. Only trains pulled by diesel locomotives could run in this section. Traffic stopped between the stations Hranice na Morava in Přerovsk and Horní Lideč in Vsetínsk, replacement buses did not run. Train traffic was also stopped on the line from Přerov to Nezamyslice on Monday evening due to frozen trolleys. Several trains did not run on the line between Hruba Voda and Olomouc this morning. According to Czech Railways, the restriction was related to a lack of locomotives, for which the bad weather is to blame. Some bus routes were also delayed or cancelled, Radka Kmochová from the press department of the regional office told ČTK.

In Vysočina, according to the police, the biggest problems this morning were on unsalted roads in Havlíčkobrodsk. Since Monday evening, it has received notifications of 35 traffic accidents, most of them in Třebíčsk. A truck transporting metal structures crashed in Radostín in the Havlíčkobrod region in the morning, the driver was injured. Shuttle traffic was restored on this main road before 06:30, there were lines of cars. In Žďár nad Sázavou, a car collided with a pedestrian, he is injured. Spreaders in Vysočina had almost 180 exits during the night.

In the Pardubice region, the roads were slippery in the morning, especially in the higher areas. Drivers had to be careful around Hlinsko, Holice or Lanškroun. Firefighters intervened in Rozstání in Svitavska, where several vehicles ended up on an icy road off the roadway. The I/11 road through Suchý Vrch and Červenovodské sedlo is covered with a layer of snow and ice, in the section the entry of vehicles over 3.5 tons is prohibited and snow chains must be used.

In the morning in the Hradec Králové region, drivers had to watch out for slippery roads after freezing rain, especially in Hradec, Jičín, Rychnovsk and Trutnovsk. In Rychnovska, the car ran into a bridge near Borohrádek and on a road covered with glaciers in Černíkovice as well. A car driver crashed into a house in Praskačka in Hradecka. The trucks got stuck on the icy roads on the feeder to the D11 highway near Chlumec nad Cidlinou in Hradecka and on the I/16 road in Chotěvice in Trutnovsk.

Ice or snow tongues may form in the Moravian-Silesian Region today, road officials warned in the morning. It is, for example, the road I/46 in the Opava region. Since the beginning of December, a roughly twenty-kilometer section of road I/56 from Ostravice via Bíla to Horní Bečva in the Zlín Region has been closed to trucks weighing more than 12 tons. The road, which is one of the main routes to Slovakia, leads past the Šance drinking water dam. Salt is not allowed there and trucks tend to have problems in the hills.

The ice cream truck was on the road near Kostelan in the Kroměříž region in the morning in the Zlín region. Due to the glacier, motorists can still expect a slippery road on the road between Vizovice and Loučka in the Zlín region, which is not maintained during the winter. Due to the glacier, the road in Kašava in the Zlín region has been impassable for several days.

In the Liberec region, the road through Oldřichovské sedlo to Raspenava and Hejnice remains closed for trucks over six tons. Buses and passenger cars will pass through, Ondřej Svoboda from the company Silnice LK, which is in charge of roads in the Liberec Region, told ČTK. In Čistá u Horek in the Semila region, on an icy section, a truck drove off the road into a meadow, where it overturned on its side. In the morning, truck drivers also had problems on the main road from Tanvald to Harrachov. The town hall in Turnov mainly urged older citizens not to go out as much as possible, because they are at risk of injury on icy sidewalks.
