In the center of Pilsen, the ledge of the house was torn off, bricks covered the entire sidewalk and the road

The ledge landed on the sidewalk in front of the house, and the rubble covered the entire width of the sidewalk and all three lanes of the adjacent road. “The ledge tore off around four o’clock in the morning. The fall of the wreckage damaged the public lighting pole,” said fire brigade spokesman Petr Poncar.

Fortunately, no one was walking on the sidewalk in front of the house at the time of the fall. “No one was injured. The sidewalk and roads are closed. We are still recording material damage to parked vehicles,” said police spokeswoman Michaela Raindlová.

The building from which the cornice was torn off is used by the Medical Faculty of Charles University. “The structural engineer decided to close the building and, for security reasons, also part of Husova Street from Kardinál Beran to Klatovská. Firefighters carried out a survey and cleaning of the road on the spot,” Poncar added.

According to the spokesperson of the Faculty of Medicine, Charles University Barbora Černíková, the operation of the dean’s office is not endangered in any way, because the faculty staff is divided into two teams in the current epidemic situation. “Group A goes for one week, group B for the next week. Now we all work from home,” Černíková described, adding that the teaching of medics is not disturbed either. “There is no teaching in the dean’s office building, the personal, economic and study departments are located there. The agendas of the study department and others will be serviced remotely, if possible, “she added. The causes of the accident are not yet known and it is not even certain when the dean’s office in the house will resume. “We will see how the repairs work,” the spokeswoman concluded.
