The Latvian Basketball Union (LBS) reports that the LSBL regulations for the 2020/2021 season have been approved.

It is expected that for the third season in a row, Latvian women’s teams will play in the Baltic Basketball League, competing with Lithuanian and Estonian teams.

The BBL tournament will be held in two groups. Last season, Latvia was represented in the elite group by “TTT Rīga”, “Liepāja” / BJSS and RSU, but next season the number of participants in the elite could increase.

In the previous season, six Latvian teams played in the BBL international group.

“Representatives of several clubs have expressed interest in joining the tournament, but we will know the number of participants after receiving the official applications,” LBS quotes Goldmane as saying.

The BBL Championship will end with “Final 4” tournaments in the elite and international group. After that, the Latvian champions will be determined.

This summer, the basketball federations of all three countries confirmed their willingness and readiness to organize the Baltic Basketball League tournament for women’s teams also in the 2020/2021 season.

Five Lithuanian, two Latvian and one Estonian teams participated in the Baltic Basketball League championship in the elite group in the 2018/2019 season, but in the 2019/2020 season – three Latvian, three Lithuanian and two Estonian teams. “TTT Rīga” became the league’s two-time champions.

Since the autumn of 2019, the Baltic League has been supported by the perfume and cosmetics retail company “Douglas Latvija”.
