Well spoken! Only nobody cares in the Middle East. The Stuttgart news write smugly on Maas’ visit to Israel: “But you don’t have to crease your seat creases in the chic suits on the plane. The lightning visit … seems more like the desperate effort to be there in any case and to generate a few fancy television pictures. There were also a few empty words and speech bubbles from the phrase threshing machine … ”
Checked off? No, because all the confessions in favor of Israel are pure hypocrisy. One must remember: In 2020 Germany voted 13 times at the United Nations to condemn Israel, but only once to condemn the terror sponsor Iran. It was no different in 2019: Germany voted 15 times to condemn Israel and once against Iran.

The following statement by Heiko Maas on the spot in Israel on May 20th was particularly hypocritical: Israel has “the right to defend itself against such massive attacks.” With which weapons? Does Maas have memory gaps? But who is the man who regularly votes against Israel in the UN? It’s Christoph Heusgen, (* 1955). His boss is Heiko Maas, but he is a Merkel man. From 2005 to 2017 he was Ministerial Director Merkel’s foreign and security policy advisor in the Chancellery. In 2019 he was ranked 7th of the “10 worst incidents of anti-Semitic behavior” by the Simon Wiesenthal Center. That was certainly unfair, because Merkel and Maas actually deserved this place. Because Heusgen never voted arbitrarily in New York, but as intended by Merkel and Maas. However, he has occasionally misjudged the tone. In a speech to the UN, he compared the Hamas rockets with the Israeli bulldozers that destroyed vacated Palestinian houses.
Yes, that’s German politics: Janus-headed and therefore ambiguous and unpredictable for many partners in Germany. The predecessor of Maas and party comrade in the Foreign Office, Steinmeier, set an example and continued as Federal President: lip service to Israel, but in February 2019 Congratulations “also on behalf of my compatriots” to the most aggressive Israel hater Iran on the 40th anniversary of the Islamic revolution.
