There was no chance to make a mistake – commented Brzęczek on his last time with the representation. Under his leadership, the Polish team played only two friendly matches, the last one almost two years ago with the Czech Republic (0: 1). So far, Brzęczek has tested his ideas on a living organism, and lost points were the price of his mistakes. On Wednesday evening in Gdańsk, the pressure of the result will be lower, although everyone wants to win against Finland.
Drągowski’s debut, Moder’s starting line-up
The friendly match will be a great opportunity to check the background of our goalkeepers. It is known that in the reality of the fight for points, Wojciech Szczęsny and Łukasz Fabiański have an undeniable position. Łukasz Skorupski in the national team was checked once by the current staff – during the last friendly match with the Czech Republic. Now, in the starting line-up it is the turn of the Fiorentina player, Bartłomiej Drągowski. It will be a debut in the adult national team for the 23-year-old. The Jagiellonian alumni played the last match in the U21 team in March 2019 in the white and red jersey. Then he did not find himself in the team that was preparing for the youth European Championships. At the end of May, he reported an injury. The type of injury is not specified. The media suggested that he did not want to join the team in which he was only supposed to be Kamil Grabara’s replacement. Now, however, he has to start a new chapter with Brzęczek and fight for the number three position.
It is very likely that new faces will also appear in our defense. Michał Karbownik may play on the left defense, which Rafał Pietrzak was called in after the coronavirus-infected Maciej Rybus. Arkadiusz Reca is prepared rather for matches for points. In the middle of defense, the staff wants to test both Paweł Bochniewicz, who regularly plays for Heerenveen, and Sebastian Walukiewicz, who does not miss any matches. The first one is more rested because he played his league match on Friday. The only question is whether one or the other player would create a duo with Kamil Glik or Jan Bednarek. Or maybe the coach will check both of them?
In the second line, Mateusz Klich has a chance to play, and Jakub Moder can make his debut in the starting line-up. He will definitely get more minutes than the last time he appeared on the pitch against the Netherlands for less than a quarter of an hour. If he performs well, who knows, will he not also play in the League of Nations matches? Due to the coronavirus, Piotr Zieliński is not present at this training camp, and Moder may be useful to Brzęczek both in the midst of aid and in a more defensive position. Moder from this weekend is a Brighton player on loan to Lech. He will play with “Kolejorz” in the Europa League, which he helped Poznań to win. She is in great shape recently. Lewandowski’s back problem
On the sides of the offensive, equal chances are Kamil Jóźwiak, who performed very well in the September matches of the national team, and Sebastian Szymański, who had problems with his leg at the previous training camp, and Damian Kądzior, a new player in Eibar. However, since these first players have played a lot of league games recently, Kądzior and Kamil Grosicki can play against Finland. “Grosik” is not catching up to the first line-up of West Brom recently, and in the last transfer window he did not change club.
