In Sarcelles, a false process to sensitize young people to the law: “A strong experience that will mark them”

“I told Camélia to push a button. She made a mistake and as a result of her mistake I lost a finger. At the head of the court, Sacha, 21, an employee of a training center, talks about the day his life changed. His lawyer states that he will never be able to work again. In the box of the accused, Camélia, who also hit her superior, is prosecuted for assault and beatings in an organized gang. She pleads for her: she is a victim of domestic violence, she drank alcohol and smoked a joint before going to work to forget the blows that fell shortly before her. “How many days of ITT has your client had?” the president asks the victim’s lawyer. This one hesitates, mumbles, looks at his sheet, raises his head, a little lost.

Don’t worry, this is all fiction. This is a false trial, organized for the first edition of the project “Your pain. My pain. Verdict! in Sarcelles, by the Jeune et Engagé association with the local mission of Val-d’Oise Est. Objective: to allow young people in the process of professional integration to become familiar with the world of justice and labor law.

“It’s a way to really reach out to young people”

“Instead of offering them a course on labor law or labor courts, we want them to have strong experience to mark them and talk about them,” says Jean-Christophe Poulet, director of the mission. -d’Oise Est. “It’s a way to really reach out to young people. If we want to support them towards employment, they must be clear about the risks they run when they do not respect the rules and the obligations of the company “, says Xavier Delarue, delegate prefect for equal opportunities.

Young people, for their part, are quite struck by their oratory rendering and their mastery of the subject. “We have learned a lot about what justice is, the profession of lawyer,” says Snaïda, who wants to become a nurse. Faizi, 20, easy-going, looking for a job in a heating plant company, also enjoyed being a lawyer. “It is a difficult job. We must defend ourselves at all costs. This bogus trial has changed my perspective on bad guys who can also be defended. “

60,000 young people sensitized in eight years

Jeune et Comgagé is not his first attempt. Since its creation, the association has been carrying out this type of awareness-raising activity in schools. “In eight years we have met more than 60,000 young people, aged 9 to 17”, underlines Paul Aïss, general manager and co-founder of the association with Florence Fitoussi and Raphaël Attard. And the projects multiply with the opening in Sarcelles, in May, of the first educational center for Justice and Citizenship in France, a sort of center for educational projects linked to justice, obviously with the reception of trial re-enactments.

On Sunday 2 October the association organizes a flashmob on the theme “stop, we’ll film you! “.” Today we have an instrument, the telephone, which protects us, explains Paul Aïss. Every citizen has a way of acting if he witnesses an attack, brandishing the telephone and filming. The goal is to create an impulse of solidarity, we’ll see! “
