The frontrunner disappointed in the cracker in Frankfurt – is this the chance for Bayern in the evening game? Gladbach is fighting back against Mainz – and Hertha is annoying Wolfsburg.
Bitter defeat for the league leaders, late goals – and a dream goal: there were spectacular scenes and surprising results in the Saturday games of the 19th Bundesliga match day.
Eintracht Frankfurt – RB Leipzig
Eintracht Frankfurt slowed down front-runner RB Leipzig and made the title fight in the Bundesliga even more exciting. With a 2-0 (0-0) victory after goals from Almamy Touré (48th minute) and Filip Kostic (90th + 4th), the Hessen team taught Julian Nagelsmann’s third defeat of the season. RB struck for the first time after nine unbeaten games in a row. The Saxons remain leaders after the setback on Saturday – and now have to prove their title maturity against Borussia Mönchengladbach and at the summit in two weeks at Bayern.
Ten days before the two clubs met again in the DFB Cup round of 16, Leipzig lost in front of national coach Joachim Löw and 50,300 spectators in the Commerzbank-Arena despite a clearly superior first half.
After RB had always scored at least three goals in the past nine games, the guests and thus also striker Timo Werner (20 goals) were left empty-handed. As in the last three games in Frankfurt, the Leipzig team could not win. Borussia Mönchengladbach – FSV Mainz 05
Thanks to double scorer Alassane Pléa, Borussia Mönchengladbach has reported back in the top group of the Bundesliga with a work victory against FSV Mainz 05. Borussia won 3-1 (1-1) against the ex-team of coach Marco Rose on Saturday. However, the eighth home win in a row was still too low due to the oppressive superiority.
With his two goals, attacker Pléa (24th minute / 76th) secured the Gladbachers three points after two previously unsuccessful Bundesliga matches. VfL Wolfsburg – Hertha BSC
The Volkswagen Arena in Wolfsburg has lost its terror for Jürgen Klinsmann.
