Around a hundred students from the new “CY Design” school are getting ready to take their first lessons on the IXblue campus in Saint-Germain-en-Laye. This establishment (deployed by CY Tech, the great scientific and economic school of the University of Cergy) aims to train designers and engineers, specializing in the transition economy.

“We want to create a global design school where our students can ask themselves the right questions. Their future job will be to find solutions so that the world of tomorrow remains livable and desirable, ”says Dominique Sciama, the school director. The programs, which will be accessible online, will focus on humans and living things in particular. Students will benefit from an innovative educational environment within the IXblue campus (design studio, computer graphics lab, machine workshops, Fablab, etc.).

The first three years are focused on the acquisition of knowledge, methods and design tools, and the last two on understanding the functioning of human organizations (companies, communities, public services). During the third year, a semester abroad (exchanges, internships or study trips) is planned. Finally, the last two years will be carried out alternately.

The creation of the school is part of a more global collaboration between the University of Cergy and the city of Saint-Germain-en Laye (Yvelines) in order to create a real university center in the royal city. On March 22, 2021, the City and the university signed a multi-year financing partnership agreement in favor of the development of this project.

On the program, after the arrival of the design school, the creation of an international section at the CY Tech engineering school, then a center dedicated to innovation around the Pasteur site (which already hosts the institute higher national teaching and education, INSPE of the Academy of Versailles and Sciences po Saint-Germain-en-Laye).
