The first test carried out by the interfederal spokesman, Yves Van Laethem, to verify if he was contaminated with the coronavirus was found to be negative, according to information from RTL. The infectious disease specialist had withdrawn from social life following contact with an infected person. It was his colleague and replacement, Boudewijn Catry, who announced the news, this Wednesday, July 22, during the Crisis Center press conference. “He does not feel sick now, but he preferred to take his precautions and implement what we have been advocating for weeks,” detailed Mr. Catry.
Later in the day, the interfederal spokesperson spoke himself from his garden, reviewing the situation in which he had potentially been contaminated. “I spent Thursday evening with my partner and her daughter to celebrate her birthday, he told RTL. This young woman turned out to be positive after a test performed on Monday.”
Yves Van Laethem felt that his situation should serve as an example to the rest of the population. “I am a good example to say that, even by respecting the measures, even by remaining in one’s bubble, by simply being in contact with close people, by taking the maximum of precautions, one can still be contaminated”, a- he explained, calling for vigilance.
The infectious disease specialist has already announced in the wake that even if his first test was negative, he would remain in quarantine and undergo a second screening in ten days.
