No polonaises, no dense crowds: the summer edition of the Schlagerfestival is unlike any other. Why, you know that by now. You could already guess that it didn’t matter much to the fans.

Supported by presenter Kürt Rogiers, 2,500 spectators bit off the first schlager evening by the sea on Friday, in the Proximus Pop-Up Arena in Middelkerke. On the bill: Willy Sommers, Bart Kaëll, De Romeo’s, Gene Thomas and Lindsay, among others. Initially, the Schlagerfestival was planned in the Ethias Arena in Hasselt, and would remain at one show this weekend. But under the impulse of the regular customers, an extra show was added. Dancing around was not allowed, and a chair remained free between each seat. But that couldn’t dampen the ambiance.
