In Paris, Korean cinema is in the spotlight for a whole week! – Paris ZigZag

For its 16th edition, the Korean Film Festival takes over the reins of Publicis Cinéma for a week dedicated to current korean cinema. From auteur films to blockbusters, around twenty screenings, including three premieres, will be available to discover from October 26 to November 2, 2021.

A journey through contemporary Korea

For a few years now, Korean seventh art has been talked about, and the recent Palme d’Or awarded to Bong Joon-ho for his film Parasite is only the confirmation. For 16 editions, the Korean Film Festival has succeeded in highlighting all the inventiveness of cinema in the Land of the Morning Calm.

From blockbusters Escape from Mogadishu and Hostage Missing Celebrity to auteur films Short Vacation, A Distant Place Where Moving On, this week of screening introduces you to a panel of new directors according to very specific themes. The “Events” section gives pride of place to action and suspense, with in particular Sinkhole by Ji-hoon Kim, telling the story of a family faced with catastrophic situations due to sudden torrential rains.

For its part, “Landscape” brings us back in the privacy of the characters, sketching the psychological and sociological portrait of each of them, confronted with the vagaries of life. With subjects as broad as disability, accidental pregnancy or the Covid-19 pandemic, the directors address issues as universal as they are personal.

With “Shorcuts”, short films mix documentary to animation. And the “Flyasiana” section will also be an opportunity to discover several films by filmmaker Yeon-chul Lee, winner of the previous edition.
