In order to reform the state, you need not only good will, but also courage. Unfortunately, the Platform lacked that

The opposition succumbed to the pressure of its own voters and broke with the agreement concluded with the Law and Justice regarding the increase of salaries for parliamentarians, local governments and persons holding leading positions in the state.

More salaries for politicians? YES!

Should politicians earn more? Yes. Could the bill have been passed at a better time? Perhaps, although we should remember that there is never a good time to talk about pay rises for politicians. However, when you say A, you have to say B. Civic Platform, which after criticism from, among others, Donald Tusk and Roman Giertych, as well as her voters, broke with the agreement concluded with PiS and showed that she lacks the courage to reform the state.

We are not deceiving ourselves, but the president or prime minister earning less than 15,000 zlotys, it should be a shame for the Polish state. MEPs do not earn too much either, let alone deputy ministers and ministers. There are many arguments for finally settling the issue of wages. Everyone is likely to have different appeal, although they are all important. The state cannot be “crap”, and it begins to be such when people are drawn to politics who see being a parliamentarian as an easy way to earn money. Dozens of times, when discussing the remuneration that politicians should receive, the argument that experts do not want to go to politics was repeated. Why? Because in the private sector they will simply receive much more money. And this is how people like Klaudia Jachira sit on the deputies’ pews. It can be said that, in a way, we wanted it ourselves … More about the dangers of low salaries that MPs receive was written by Jacek Karnowski on our website.

The salaries of deputy ministers or deputies are at such a level today that they threaten the basic efficiency of our state. They generate obvious threats: corruption, seeking a future in business, negative selection, low social prestige, escape to international structures

Poor Shed

According to media reports, the PO leadership did not expect such harsh criticism from its voters. If so, maybe you have to think about whether you have lost your social ear? However, if it was otherwise, it was necessary to go out and explain why these changes, although controversial for most Poles, are nevertheless necessary. The party’s skirmishes certainly had an impact on the PO’s withdrawal from the agreement concluded with Nowogrodzka. Borys Budka could show that he is a real leader, that he can make unpopular but necessary decisions. However, this did not happen. Budka failed the test for the leader spectacularly. I am sure that the vast majority of the Civic Platform deputies would stand behind him, it was enough to just go out and explain everything, not hide. It turned out, therefore, that Tusk and Schetyna still had a lot to say in the PO, and its current chairman did not have much to say. There were even the first voices of the members of the Civic Coalition, who suggested that Budka must leave. It will certainly not be an easy time for the PO chairman.

The issue of remuneration for the political class seems closed. Politicians will not come back to him soon. It is a pity because it was an issue that needed to be resolved. Unfortunately, the failure of this initiative was due to the lack of political courage, weak leader, tones of populism, as well as mindless listening to the voices of “uncles, good advice.”

Let me remind you that when the Platform increased the retirement age of Poles, it did not have the votes of the protesting citizens. Today, he explains his voltage by listening to the voice of citizens, which he sinks even deeper. Because when they were negotiating the bill with PiS, did they not know that there was a coronavirus crisis? After all, PO politicians accused the government of not supporting employees and entrepreneurs. Did they forget about it while fighting for their salaries? And finally, maybe PO voters would not be so strict with their representatives, if they were not convinced that Budka has moved to negotiations with the “dictator”. Is someone here reaping the fruits of being a total opposition?
