In Israel, ‘green passes’ are being reintroduced, with the number of Covid-19 cases increasing

Israel re-introduces the “green pass” system in response to the increase in new Covid-19 cases, the government’s Covid-19 crisis council said on Thursday, July 22.

To participate in events with more than 100 people, those over the age of 12 will be required to provide proof of vaccination, disease or a negative Covid-19 test result.

The requirement will apply to sporting and cultural events, as well as fitness centers, conferences and prayer houses.

New restrictions will also affect air passengers.

Even vaccinated passengers will have to be quarantined when entering Israel until they receive a negative test result, while unvaccinated travelers will have to spend seven days in quarantine.

The list of “red countries” that can only be visited with special permission has also been extended. It now includes Britain, Georgia, Cyprus and Turkey.

The rules, which have yet to be approved by the government, will take effect within a week.

From August 8, people who do not want to be vaccinated will have to pay for their Covid-19 tests themselves, the government council decided.

“Green passes” were introduced in February, but as the number of infections decreased, most restrictions were lifted again.

Recently, however, the number of new infections has again exceeded 1,000, thus reintroducing the requirement to wear masks indoors.

The number of infections is explained by the prevalence of the most contagious delta of the virus.

In a country of 9.3 million people, 62% have received the first dose of Covid-19 and 56% have received the second dose.
