in Grenoble environmental activists block boulevard Gambetta to demand “more ambitious policies”

For several hours, dozens of environmental activists from the Extinction Rebellion organization have been blocking Boulevard Gambetta, near the Caserne de Bonne, in Grenoble. Their goal: to challenge citizens and public authorities by calling for “more ambitious policies” in the field of energy sobriety.

Since 2.30 pm, dozens of Extinction Rebellion activists have blocked Boulevard Gambetta, one of the main axes of the city of Grenoble, in Isère.

In a statement, the organization states:We have come here to remind you that the age of the growing world should end (…) Why is growth not desirable? It has seen our societies become richer, habitats warm up, and leisure time develops“,

Climate change is certain, as many have already seen. Drought floods the forests with sadness, highlights the lack of water and our weakness.

The world becomes more complex, interactions multiply, but the limits of the world we live in are becoming evident“Adds the members of the movement.

On a banner, activists wrote: “Slow down or die“.”This affects various aspects of daily life“Says one of them specifying that it is”the consumer society: our energy consumption, our way of moving or eating“.

We need to reduce our impact on the survival of our societiesinsists Roka, one of the activists.

We will have to slow down due to the energy crises and it is desirable to slow down.

We have to organize it and it will require profound changes because we have to rethink the way society works.“concludes Roka.

This event, which takes place in Grenoble this Saturday, 29 October, is part of a series of actions carried out nationwide by the Extinction Rebellion organization until 6 November. Other rallies are organized in Paris or Lille.
