Three candidates for Chancellor of Germany commented on the importance of the SP-2 for Ukraine and Europe

Two candidates for the post of German Chancellor expressed their readiness to abandon the operation of Sevpotok-2, and another called to prevent the completion of construction.

Candidates for the post of Federal Chancellor of Germany Armin Laschet and Olaf Scholz said they are ready to abandon the project Nord Stream 2, if Russia will use it as a weapon against Ukraine, while Annalena Berbock urges not to let the construction be completed. About this on Saturday, June 26, reported DW edition.

Thus, the relevant statements by representatives of the pro-government bloc Christian Democratic Union / Christian Social Union, the Social Democratic Party of Germany and the Union-90 / Greens party were made during the discussion of the candidates.

For example, the head of government of the federal state of North Rhine-Westphalia Laschet argues that if Russian President Vladimir Putin does not adhere to the rules and starts using SP-2 against Ukraine, “it will be possible at any time, even when the pipeline is ready, to stop its use.” …

In turn, the acting Vice-Chancellor and Minister of Finance of the Federal Republic of Germany Scholz expressed confidence that “a negative impact on gas transit and the security of Ukraine will have implications for possible supplies through an already completed gas pipeline.”

At the same time, both politicians recognized Nord Stream 2 economic project and supported the completion of the gas pipeline.

At the same time, Berbock opposed the completion of the SP-2, which, according to her, Moscow would “put pressure on the West and Ukraine through dependence on Russian gas,” and urged not to issue Nord Stream 2 the last required building permit.

We will remind, earlier the President of Ukraine Vladimir Zelensky appealed to candidates to the post of Chancellor of Germany with a number of questions about their future policy towards Ukraine, in particular, he asked whether the candidates support the Russian project SP-2.
