In Draguignan, caregivers denounce the closure of emergencies at night

About fifty caregivers officiating at the Dracénie Hospital Center (CHD) demonstrated in front of the emergency entrance, Friday, October 29, 2021, between 1 p.m. and 2 p.m.

They denounce the closure of the emergency department of the hospital at night, announced by the management a few days earlier. From this Friday evening, 8:30 p.m., it will no longer be possible to access the emergency rooms of the CHD until the next day, 8:30 a.m.

A glaring lack of personnel

A decision taken by the management for lack of a sufficient number of emergency responders. “We only have six when we need at least sixteen, specifies Marianne Pézeret, communication officer of the CHD. We want to reopen the service as soon as possible as soon as we have schedules with enough staff. “

“In 25 years of career within the establishment, I have never seen this”, laments Marie-Lise Lehay, assistant secretary Force Ouvrière. This nurse anesthetist deplores “a foreseeable situation which will adversely affect the entire hospital and the quality of patient care.”

A domino effect for other services

Among the fifty caregivers who responded this afternoon, are Amandine and Fanny. The two in their thirties are nurses in the day hospital, in general medicine. “We are here out of solidarity for our colleagues”, explains Amandine.

“We must not forget that 70% of admissions to Draguignan hospital go through emergencies, recalls Fanny. If emergencies close, all other departments will suffer in the future. “

If the management of the establishment has assured that this closure was temporary, without giving a specific date, the unions believe that it will be relevant for several weeks.

“The caregivers are exhausted, worn out … It is normal for the management to take this decision to preserve the troops”, concludes the trade unionist.

Every day, the emergency rooms of the CHD welcome between 100 and 150 patients.

A new gathering is planned in front of the emergency entrance at 8 p.m. this Friday evening.
