Scrubs, hand care, foot care or make-up: at Chartres (Eure-et-Loir), we do not forget to take care of ourselves, even if we are old. The APEF agency, which offers services such as cleaning, childcare, gardening or personal assistance, is inaugurating a new service: “well-being and relaxation” treatments.
Because in Chartres, you can just as well take care of yourself from… at home!
In this personal service agency of Chartres, 72% of beneficiaries are over 70 years old and some are faced with a reduction in autonomy, which prevents them from going to the beauty salon. Sabrina Foulon, manager of this company, found the solution to offer well-being… home.
“A contribution to self-esteem”
Out of thirty-two workers from the APEF in Chartres, eight auxiliaries were trained by a socio-esthetician to practice these new acts. The objective: that the beneficiaries have fun and that the caregivers take pleasure in providing this care.
This service goes further than taking care of yourself, it is a moment of sharing and complicity, a contribution to self-esteem. On the side of the workers, it is a way of combating received ideas.
Because according to Sabrina Foulon, “being a carer is not just about washing the people you care for, it’s about showing that you can have more global support and create a different bond” .
Technical gestures and a little caution
Haya Elabib is part of the first promotion that was trained, for example she learned technical gestures aesthetic treatments, how to prepare the skin or how to recognize if the skin is dry, oily or dehydrated.
She explains: “We learned to do scrubs, massages, and even make-up. We also know our limits of intervention in the event that a person has a pathology, such as diabetes, hemophilia or if they are in the process of chemotherapy”.
“A plus compared to traditional services”
By following the protocol to the letter, she agrees with Sabrina Foulon’s opinion on the benefits of these new services:
This makes it possible to have an even more privileged link with the person, to accompany him in a different way, with care for the feet, hands or face. This is a plus compared to traditional services, for people who would not go to an institute with a walker or a wheelchair.
