Pfizer, Coronavac, Astrazeneca … a man combined almost all the vaccines offered against covid-19 in Brazil and will have to explain to the authorities how he managed to circumvent controls to receive five doses in ten weeks.

The Rio de Janeiro Health Secretariat identified the person and “confirmed the notification of five doses received by the citizen, who will be contacted to clarify” why he went to be immunized that number of times, the mayor said in a note sent to the AFP.

Between May 12 and July 21, the subject took two doses of the Pfizer vaccine, two from Coronavac and one from AstraZeneca, according to TV Globo, which accessed his digital vaccination card.

To be immunized, people must be of the age determined by the municipal calendar, present an identity document, which is registered in the Ministry of Health system, and to obtain the second dose, show on a certificate that they have received the first.

The mayor’s office indicated that the man went to three different health posts, in which he would have taken advantage of moments of failure in the electronic system to receive the doses that did not correspond to him, according to the G1 news portal.

The Ministry of Health is still investigating the circumstances, but reported that it will evaluate the “pertinent measures” against the ‘pentavacunado’, who was caught trying to get his sixth dose on August 16. It is also investigated if there are similar cases.

Brazil has a high adherence to its vaccine programs, something that is maintained during the current covid-19 campaign.

Several states in Brazil have reported a lack of immunizers to comply with the schedule established by the Ministry of Health and Rio de Janeiro has even suspended its campaign several times due to lack of doses.

Of the 212 million Brazilians, 58% received at least one dose and 25% the second.

The authorities have also had to take measures to inhibit the so-called “vaccine sommeliers”, who roam the health units looking for the immunizer of their choice.

In June, the mayor of Rio, Eduardo Paes, criticized these “sommeliers”, some of whom even took a third dose: “That is crime, that is fraud,” he said.

Brazil reports more than 570,000 deaths from covid-19, a figure exceeded only by the United States. (I)
