On the morning of the 22nd, the “Archaeology Forum of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences New Archaeological Discoveries in China in 2022” was held in Beijing. The forum received a total of 43 application materials for new archaeological discoveries from all over the country. After review by the expert committee, six selected projects were selected and six shortlisted projects, spanning from the Paleolithic to the Song and Yuan dynasties. Among them, the Yanyuan Old Dragon Head Bronze Age Cemetery located in Wudongqiao Village, Runyan Town, Yanyuan County, Liangshan Yi Autonomous Prefecture, Sichuan Province was shortlisted for the “2022 Chinese Archaeological New Discoveries” list.

In April 2020, a joint archaeological team formed by Chengdu Institute of Cultural Relics and Archeology, Sichuan Provincial Institute of Cultural Relics and Archaeology, Liangshan Yi Autonomous Prefecture Museum, and Yanyuan County Cultural Relics Management Office conducted a rescue excavation of the Laolongtou site. As of February 22, 2023, more than 1,400 tombs have been cleared at the Laolongtou site, and more than 6,000 pieces (sets) of artifacts have been unearthed.

The Laolongtou site is the longest-lasting Bronze Age cemetery discovered so far in Southwest China, and it lasted from the late Shang Dynasty to the Western Han Dynasty. Since the excavation of the Laolongtou site, the unearthed bronzes with special shapes, as well as the unique tomb shape and funeral customs of this culture have attracted the attention of the society.
