IMSS reiterates invitation to eligible women to undergo mammography

The Regional Representation Office of the Mexican Institute of Social Security (IMSS) in Veracruz Norte informs that, as part of the recovery of services, it reiterates the invitation to eligible women to undergo mammography in their corresponding Family Medical Unit (UMF) .

To attend the study in the Mobile Mammography Units for the timely detection of breast cancer, which will be located during the current year 2021 as follows:

Xalapa Zone: UMF No. 19 of Banderilla, from June 9 to 23; UMF No. 58 of Xalapa, from June 24 to July 2 and at the Omega Gymnasium in Xalapa, from July 5 to 30.

Cardel Zone: UMF No. 37 of Rinconada, from June 11 to 16; UMF No. 63 from El Farallón, from June 17 and 18 and UMF No. 56 from Actopan, from June 21 and 22.

The main objectives of the breast cancer screening measures are: to achieve breast cancer detection coverage and identify malignant tumors in early stages, in addition to promoting diagnosis, timely treatment and reducing mortality.

The detection of breast cancer is carried out through self-examination of the breast monthly from the age of 20, the clinical examination of the breast every year from the age of 25 and mammography every two years from the age of 50 to 69 years old and between 40 and 49 years old, in women with a direct family history who have suffered from this type of cancer.

Breast cancer is the abnormal and disorderly growth of cells of the epithelium of the mammary ducts or lobules, with the capacity to spread to other parts of the body; it is the most common malignant tumor in women in developed and developing countries.
