This Monday, in a presentation of intensification and social awareness days, Dr. Lytton Snead, director of the Eleventh Health Region, urged the other directors of health regions to take the lead with the aim of extending vaccination coverage to every corner of our country, in such a way that no Paraguayan child is unprotected against possible illnesses.

The main objective, according to the official, is to guarantee that the regular immunization schedule is covered in children under five years of age.

Snead pointed out that he is supporting the work so that the service works as it should and the biologicals are not missing.

They are aware of low coverage

“Central is the sounding board for what is done well and what is done badly. Our coverage is low and our people from the Expanded Immunization Program are aware, that is why we have the obligation and commitment to ensure coverage arrives,” said the director of the Eleventh Health Region.

He urged the other directors to work on their capacity to manage vaccines, since they are responsible for reaching the great goal: that every Paraguayan child is immunized.

In the same sense, he highlighted the support of the people of PAHO and the Information and Resources Center for Development (CIRD) for always collaborating to achieve the immunization objectives.

“Let’s go out and vaccinate, this country needs healthy people,” remarked Lytton Snead.

Vaccines as a habit and no more “D-Day”

“Those kids who want a better future tomorrow are in our hands. I stand with our authorities to make it a reality, so that ‘D-Day’ does not happen again,” she expressed, referring to the fact that vaccination has to be something common and not exceptional.

For her part, Andrea Cid, an official with Unicef Paraguay, highlighted that in recent times the need for the vaccine has decreased.

However, he drew the attention of vaccinators to the fact that “by arriving home many times we do not necessarily achieve immunization. It is important to work with community leaders to make them understand the need for children, adolescents and adults to be vaccinated and not having to deal with subsequent illnesses,” said the Unicef representative.

They highlight our country’s commitment to immunization

He highlighted that since October 2021, more than 900,000 vaccines against the coronavirus have been administered and 1,900 health professionals have also been trained. He also reported that more than 2 million people received “effective and timely information and more than 7,200 children used safe spaces for children, in vaccination days and processes.”

At the time, Dr. Marcelo Korc, PAHO/WHO representative in Paraguay, said that with these types of meetings “the country’s commitment to the vaccination strategy to combat diseases is shown.”

They “dream” of increasing coverage

“The expanded immunization program must be more integrated into the entire health system. “If we could say that upon completion of the first 100 days of this new administration there would be an increase in vaccination coverage…,” the representative predicted.

He also indicated the importance of working to strengthen surveillance and integrate the primary health care model. “Microplanning of the country’s immunization scheme is necessary, so that we can say that we achieved success,” the professional recommended.
