A fisherman captured the jaw-dropping moment when a huge tiger shark attacked his kayak. Watching the video will make you surprised.
The shocking footage was taken by Scott Haraguchi off the coast of Oahu in Hawaii last Friday. He only turned on his GoPro because he had just caught a fish and forgot to turn off the camera.
“It was really unlucky, but very lucky to catch him,” Haraguchi told KITV.
Haraguchi said that if he had not recorded the incident on video, people might not have believed his story.
“I heard a roaring sound that sounded like a boat heading towards me without a motor,” said Haraguchi.
“And I looked up and I saw this big brown thing that my brain thought was a turtle, but then I slammed into it and I realized it was a tiger shark.”
Haraguchi said he didn’t realize his left leg was taking the impact and then used it to push off the shark’s head.
“If you asked me to do it again, even without the shark, I don’t think I would have that flexibility. I actually just thought the shark hit the kayak until I saw the video at home,” he joked.
Haraguchi wasn’t really sure why the tiger shark was chasing him. But he has a theory involving an injured seal he saw nearby after the attack.
“So I thought that the shark actually paralyzed and injured the seal, left it to die or waited for it to die, came back and thought I was a seal and attacked me instead,” he said.
Despite the ferocious attack, the shark barely made a dent in Haraguchi’s kayak and the fisherman was unhurt, only shaken off.
“I realized that life is short, time is short on Earth. Make the most of it, be nice to people – all of that,” he concluded as quoted by PetaPixel.
