PT Hyundai Motors Indonesia (HMID) responding to the increasing number of brands appearing Chinese electric car in the country. Instead of feeling threatened, Hyundai actually welcomed their arrival with open arms

It is known that since the last year, many Chinese electric car brands have arrived in Indonesia. After Wuling reaped great success with its tiny electric car, a number of new names continued to emerge, starting from DFSK, Seres, Chery, Neta to Maxus.

In fact, in the near future, there are other names that are said to be following, such as BYD and Geely. According to Hyundai, their arrival will have a good impact on the Indonesian electrification market. Because the electric vehicle ecosystem is developing more quickly.

“Yes, that’s good, because currently there are only two big players (in the electric segment), Hyundai and Wuling. Their contribution is approximately 60 percent for both, up to last month (Hyundai-Wuling) sold 9,000 (units) from a market of 12 thousand ,” said Fransiscus Soerjopranoto as Chief Operating Officer (COO) of HMID.

“The more makers that enter, whether it’s China or Japan, the more they shape the market. So like it or not, what is called an ecosystem will definitely be formed. Right now, Hyundai is create ecosystem, in the future more independent SPKLU will emerge,” he added.

Furthermore, according to Frans, with the increase in electric car brands in Indonesia, independent SPKLU will quickly spread to many points. So, in this way, these non-emission vehicles become more popular and have an impact on overall sales.

“So what we hope is to build a more environmentally friendly industry, because our concern is again (fighting) pollution. Then there is the dependence of vehicles on fossil fuels,” said Frans.
