Immigrants in the US Must Give Joe Biden a Vote of Confidence, According to US Lawyer with Ecuadorian Blood | International | News

Aníbal Romero started his own immigration law firm in 2009.

His profession as a lawyer specializing in migration has made him aware of various cases. As happened in 2018, when his figure was made public when representing several undocumented employees who worked for a club of the Trump organization, of then President Donald Trump.

His name is Aníbal Romero, he is the son of Ecuadorians but was born in Jersey City, United States, and grew up in Jackson Heights -in the New York district of Queens-. That did not prevent her from living in Guayaquil since she was 17, when her parents retired and returned. He became a lawyer here and the search for opportunities returned him to his country of birth, where he went back to study.

He claims that he took the case of migrants to show the hypocrisy of Trump, who came to the White House with a harsh speech against immigrants.

“This showed that the problem of illegal immigration was something much bigger than just political rhetoric, that these people lived here for many years … that a change was needed to bring them out of the darkness, something that has already begun to change with the new government, ”says Romero.

Currently his firm, The Romero Firm, has offices in five states. It started in 2009 with the Ecuadorian community and then grew.

During the last campaign he participated for the first time in politics as an activist and strategist in charge of Latino voters in the Joe Biden campaign.

He affirms that the problem of the Latino in the United States is that he does not vote. “They complain, they claim, but they don’t vote … it is important to show that with the Latino vote you can win an election and that is what happened,” says Romero.

From his point of view, one of the things that made a part of Latinos vote for Trump was the great disinformation campaign, especially through social networks. He claims that information came to them with gossip or ridiculous theories that led people to accuse Biden without proof of being a socialist or even a pedophile. It also recognizes that the economy was good before the pandemic, its mismanagement damaged it and therefore the Government.

He keeps thinking that another Trump term would have been harmful to immigrants and would have further isolated the country.

When speaking of the current president, Romero says that in less than two months in office he has made a 180 ° turn in terms of migration issues. He even ordered what they call a stop to deportations. That, without affecting the economic recovery.

The most important thing, he says, is that an immigration law that would legalize the status of 11 million immigrants will begin to be debated, in addition to the fact that the president has proposed a plan to legalize all the undocumented who live in the country. However, he does not deny that it will be a difficult process and that it should be during this 2021, because the following year there are elections to the Senate and during the electoral years it is more complicated.

Biden also promised to allocate 4,000 million to combat the origin of migration from Central America.

“The stigma of being undocumented not only affects the person, the families took them with them, but now a change is being experienced … The idea is to create a human system of migration and not anti-migrant, which was what was seen in the last four years and it didn’t work out. The United States has always been a country of immigrants, ”he adds.

He comments that Ecuadorians and Latinos in general are the workforce that is seen even in luxury restaurants or in the construction of skyscrapers, so they need to improve their status so as not to be exploited.

For all these reasons, he asks for a vote of confidence for the Biden administration and that when it has to be criticized, it should be done.

Regarding the current controversy over the arrival of thousands of minors to the border with Mexico, he comments that this is something that has always happened and the difference is that you cannot just send a child back, but take care of him and that is what being done. (I)
