The SOS Racismo association demanded justice this Saturday for the case of the death of a 39-year-old man, shot this afternoon in Moscavide, in the municipality of Loures, considering that “the premeditated character of the murder leaves no room for doubt that it is a crime with motivations of racial hatred “.
“Today, at 2 pm, Bruno Candé Marques, a black Portuguese citizen, was killed with four point-blank shots. His killer had already threatened him with death three days earlier and repeatedly racist insulted the victim,” says the association, in a statement.
Bruno Candé, 39, was an actor, had three children and belonged to the theater company Casa Conveniente, according to the newspaper “Público”. According to the PSP, the young man was “shot in various parts of the body” by another man “about 80 years old”. Source of the Metropolitan Command of Lisbon of the PSP told Lusa that the death was declared on the spot and that the person responsible for the shots was arrested and a firearm was seized.
“The detainee, after the shots, was detained by popular people until the arrival of the PSP, offered no resistance and, at this moment, is in our custody,” said Commissioner Bruno Pires, adding that the suspect is in one of the police departments of the Metropolitan Command of Lisbon.
According to reports collected at the site, days earlier there would have been an argument between the two men, and Bruno Candé Marques has since been threatened by the man who this Saturday fired four shots. In the statement, SOS Racismo calls for “the murder of Bruno Candé Marques to be no more without consequences”, demanding that “justice be done”.
Asked if the crime was motivated by racism, PSP commissioner Bruno Pires said that “the only thing that is known, and that could be useful for the investigation, is that there are already reports throughout this week of contempt”, but the PSP still does not know the reason for them. “Of the reports we obtained, not much information was advanced”, he reinforced.
The crime took place on the street, “in the middle of Moscavide Avenue”, where “some shots” were recorded, whose traces “are being collected by the Judiciary Police”, as it is a homicide crime, said the PSP commissioner.
The leader of Bloco de Esquerda, Catarina Martins, also left a post on Twitter, denouncing the crime.
