Illuminations and free parking to support the reopening of shops in Montluçon (Allier)

The city of Montluçon has advanced the illumination of Christmas decorations already installed in the streets and squares, to this Friday, November 27.

Frédéric Laporte, the mayor, launched the event under the bright sky of Place Piquand in the presence of Alric Berton, deputy in charge of culture, heritage, festivities and tourism, and Magali Bonnefoy, delegate councilor for communication and several representatives of the J’aime Montluçon Coeur de ville association.

We took the decision with the mayor to advance the illumination of the city after the speech by Emmanuel Macron. Our goal is to support the resumption of activity in businesses and give the city a festive air.

The technical service continues to work to install the rest of the Christmas decorations. The installations will ramp up until Sunday, December 13. Among other things, fir forests will be installed on the Jean-Jaurès, Piquand and Marx-Dormoy squares.

The virtual Christmas market and the return of mapping to the old Castle will be other highlights of the end of the year celebrations.

Parking remains free until the end of December

The city maintains free parking until the end of December, always with the idea of supporting local commerce.

Although he is not entirely convinced by the measure, Mayor Frédéric Laporte hopes that it will have an attractive effect on consumers.

If that can encourage people to come to Montluçon and that they can park and stay there, they will perhaps buy in the shops. It will be positive

There will be a charge for parking again from January 1, 2021 under the usual conditions. Two free hours per day will therefore always be offered from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m.
